Priobiotics and Poultry - A Recipe for Success

In late 2016, a new poultry barn was opened to accommodate a large flock of layer hens. The old barn was turned over to Levi to manage, with a total count of 13,000 layer hens, divided into two sections, one older and one younger.

At the time Levi took over, the production level in the barn ranged between 11,160 and 11,340 eggs per day.

On January 8, 2017, Levi began mixing 1 quart of High Probiotic Anti-Pathogenic Culture with each ton of feed for the birds. The results were apparent almost immediately.

On January 14, 2017:

  • They collected 12,420 eggs.
  • The number of “soft-shell” eggs lost during collection was reduced to only 10 eggs
(previous average of 180-200 eggs lost)
  • Older birds reduced feed consumption to only 1,000 lbs/day (down from 1,500)
  • Younger birds reduced feed consumption to 1,140 lbs/day (down from 1,500)
  • Levi noted that there was significantly less manure being scraped out

Shortly after, they began adding our DynaMin Livestock mineral powder to the feed in addition to the culture. As they have tracked the barn through the summer of 2017 and beyond, they have seen the following results:

  • 10% average increase in egg production
  • Many more large eggs and far fewer small to medium eggs
(A recent grading sheet showed 90.47% of the eggs were large, Xlarge, or above, with only 7.92% medium or below. Only 1.59% were classified as Seconds.)
  • Darker, larger yolks without yolk die
  • Thicker albumin (whites)
  • Smoother shells (roughness and irregularities of shells disappeared)
  • Calmer, quieter birds – no longer flighty or high-strung
  • Far less manure
  • Greatly reduced ammonia levels
  • Feed consumption rate evened out at 1,250 lbs/day for each groups
    (down from original 1,500 lbs/day/group)
  • Longer laying life span – they have had birds at 95-100 weeks that were still laying in the low 90’s
(December 2017 combined laying rate of 95% with one flock at 46 weeks and one flock at 85 weeks)
  • No e-coli or salmonella (all tests negative)
Note: Another operation had been shut down for over a year because of salmonella. They started using our culture and haven’t had any trouble since.

The total cost of the supplements is approximately $4 per day, but the increased revenue from more and larger eggs combined with reduced feed costs exceeds $200 per day!

$4 in, $200 out; it sounds like the lottery, but it’s just good business!

Feed Probiotics and Save Money

Feed Probiotics and Save Money!

The use of probiotic supplements in humans is widely recognized and accepted, with many health benefits. We have been using probiotics in animals for over 15 years and our results have been consistent.

  1. Lower mortality
  2. Better digestion and feed utilization (they eat about 25 percent less)
  3. Increased animal health (less disease)
  4. Increased animal performance

The volume of probiotics used is very small, but it makes a significant difference. For example, we have been working with poultry farmers, both layers and broilers, as well as turkeys. We add one quart of probiotic per ton of feed and the results have been universal:

  1. 25% reduction in feed consumption
  2. Less mortality and greater overall bird health
  3. More solid refuse, easier to clean out
  4. Significant increase in egg quality – harder shells, larger eggs
  5. Increased productive longevity – birds lay at higher rates for a longer time
  6. Broilers increase in size by 15-20%
  7. Reduced incidence of disease in the barns

We use the same quart of probiotics mixed into the rations of swine with similar results. They all eat less (the same 25%), improve condition, reduce disease, and gain weight.

Cattle receive larger doses because of their larger size. Adult cattle receive 3-5 oz/head/day, mixed into their daily ration. Again, we see the same results: eat less, improve condition, reduce disease, increase milk production or gain weight.

With newborn cattle and swine, we use small doses of probiotics, given directly by mouth, to inoculate their digestive tracts with good biology ahead of any pathogens. This reduces scours, lowers mortality, and gives the babies a much stronger start. We have successfully treated scouring calves with doses of probiotics and they recover, with no ill effects. As soon as the animals are large enough to eat dry rations, the probiotic is included in the ration mix to continue the benefits through maturity.

We combine the probiotics with a micro-nutrient mineral dust in the feed for even greater results. The micro-nutrients replace much of the trace minerals that are missing in our plants today, providing more complete nutrition for your animals, resulting in greater health and performance.

The cost is minimal and quickly offset and exceeded by the reduction in food consumption.

The Role of Probiotics in Nutrition

We have an unusual problem in our modern world. Many of our people are malnourished and starving in the midst of unprecedented plenty. They aren’t starving in the traditional sense. They have plenty of food in their cupboards and they eat three (or more) meals every day. But they are starving because the foods they are consuming are so lacking in vital nutrients that their bodies can’t function properly. The result is a precipitous rise in many auto-immune, digestive, and degenerative diseases over the past few decades.

Benefits of Lactic Biology

The lactic culture groups in our cultured probiotics do many amazing things. The first thing to thank them for is pathogenic control. Lactic cultures are the guys that can quickly kill toxin producing organisms. When they are equipped with the right nutrients they will kill these disease-causing organisms in as little as 24 hours.

There is a constant influx of pathogens into livestock and poultry barns. If we can get the beneficial organisms topped off and running the show, they will prevent the pathogens from gaining a foothold. Sickness wastes an incredible amount of animal energy, which then needs to be replaced. If we eliminate the pathogens that cause the sickness, that energy is now available for the animal’s growth and production.

Here is the SHORT list of benefits from the lactic groups:

  • Lives in the GI tract, preventing pathogens / disease causing organisms from flourishing (e.g. listeria, E Coli, Clostridium Botulinum, Salmonellas which are now ALL antibiotic resistant)
  • Creates a healthy barrier in the colon. Stops dangerous bacteria from penetrating the lining of the intestines and entering into the blood stream
  • Reverses Irritable Bowel symptoms
  • Eases symptoms of Crohns disease
  • Helps heal Colitis
  • Is resistant to most antibiotics, which is why we see it still working when antibiotics are used
  • Lessen the effects of the use of antibiotics
  • Resists chemotherapeutics
  • Preserves critical nutrients and vitamins, and acts as an antioxidant
  • improves the composition of LDL (which you need, but in lower amounts) post-prandial lipids
  • Remarkable anti-atherogenic effects
  • Produces L Lysine Amino Acids (this is rare)
  • Highly effective in preventing soy-related allergies (immunoreactivity)
  • Improves liver status, reduction of mucosal inflammation
  • Assists cholesterol metabolism
  • Suppresses gram negative Enterococci, Shigella, and Staphylacoccus
  • Resistance to glycopeptide vancomycin, to tetracycline, erthromycin resistance plasmids
  • Ability to ferment sugar substances into lactic acid, D lactate, L lactate
  • Improves animal performance
  • Reduces growth of yeasts, inhibitory to molds
  • Survives gastrointestinal transit, being resistant to bile, low pH, digestive enzymes
  • Reduces intestinal pain in animals
  • Effective against both Salmonella typhimurium and Campylobacter jejuni
  • Improves bowel regularity
  • Has a preventative effect against traveler’s diarrhea, as well as antibiotic related bowel issues
  • Produces vitamin K, lactase, bacteriocins, such as acidolin, acidophilin and lactocidin
  • Has the potential to reduce risk of coronary heart disease by up to 10% via serum cholesterol concentration
  • Induces uopioid and canabiniod receptors in the intestines of animals
  • Produces enzymes, amylase, protease, produces antibiotic and fungicide to control pathogens
  • Ferociuos warriors in the army of advantageous microbes maintaining micro-flora balance in the intestine
  • Bolsters the immune system
  • Aids in digestion
  • Controls allergic diseases
  • Cancer prevention
  • Converts nitrates (NO3) into nitrites (NO2) reduces toxic effects
  • Produces important B complex vitamins

In addition to these benefits, there are many more that we haven't even learned yet. With all of these benefits from just one probiotic group, it is easy to see why our probiotic cultures containing multiple groups are so effective at improving livestock health and preventing disease.
